Hearing the word Malang, the first thing that comes to mind is apples. If not, one will think of a cool city in East Java at the foot of Mount Semeru. And this certainly is not wrong, although Malang is more than apples and a cool climate.

Uniquely at the orchards, visitors can pick the apples straight from the tree and eat to their hearts desire (all apples eaten at the orchards are free, but any brought home will be weighed as you leave). In Batu there are also a number of villas available for rent and several resorts.
There are also a number of beaches to the south of Malang, including Ngliyep and Balekambang. Usually on holidays the beaches are very crowded. There are a number of simple accommodation choices available for visitors.

Malang is a city full of history which can be experienced at a number of museums full of artefacts and stories from past struggles. There are a number of old restaurants from the Dutch era which have become the stuff of legend, such as Toko Oen. Toko Oen was a gathering place for Dutch ladies. Malang also has two town squares not too apart. Historically the Balaikota square was reserved for Dutch officials while the city square was for the people. These days the two squares are still maintained and can be enjoyed by everyone.
