Why Malang?

Hearing the word Malang, the first thing that comes to mind is apples. If not, one will think of a cool city in East Java at the foot of Mount Semeru. And this certainly is not wrong, although Malang is more than apples and a cool climate.
Indeed, the first thing one notice when entering Malang is the cool air, organization of the city and relaxed atmosphere. But in Malang there are also many interesting tourist attractions to visit. In city the Brawijaya Museum, hot springs and the family recreation park “Sengkaling” are attractions that are easily reached. Or, if you want to buy souvenirs you can go to Dinoyo, the center of the ceramic industry. There you can buy a range of souvenirs, ranging in price from 500 to thousands of rupiah.
Songgoriti On the outskirts of the city there are a number of tourist attractions such as the Wendit baths, Songgoriti hot springs and Singorsari, Badut and Jago temples (remainders from the Singosari kingdom). Even more interesting, around the Selorejo dam you can participate in a number of water sports including water skiing, jet ski as well as enjoy fresh local fish.
For those that enjoy the mountains to the west of Malang is the Selecta baths and also orchards in Kotip Batu. Uniquely at the orchards, visitors can pick the apples straight from the tree and eat to their hearts desire (all apples eaten at the orchards are free, but any brought home will be weighed as you leave). In Batu there are also a number of villas available for rent and several resorts.
There are also a number of beaches to the south of Malang, including Ngliyep and Balekambang. Usually on holidays the beaches are very crowded. There are a number of simple accommodation choices available for visitors.
So, if you come to Malang there is more to experience than just a cool climate. There are a number of amazing agricultural, historical and natural sites close to the city centre.

Malang is a city full of history which can be experienced at a number of museums full of artefacts and stories from past struggles. There are a number of old restaurants from the Dutch era which have become the stuff of legend, such as Toko Oen. Toko Oen was a gathering place for Dutch ladies. Malang also has two town squares not too apart. Historically the Balaikota square was reserved for Dutch officials while the city square was for the people. These days the two squares are still maintained and can be enjoyed by everyone.
Malang is also a centre of education. The University of Brawijaya and a number of private universities give prestige to the name Malang and students come from all over Indonesia and the world.
The Malang government promotes Malang as a tourist and education destination and preserves its natural and historical attributes.
